My life in a nutshell, or close to it.

I was born in the New Haven hospital on August 9th, 1991. I grew up in the same house I live in now, and have many memories. I think it is a good thing for a DJ or any role model to give a bit about their life, so hopefully I am a role model in the first place. One person who really inspired me later on in my life was DJ Cotts. He was the very person who inspired me to take my DJing to a new level (when I started, I had a little MIDI controller to rock out on, as you will read later on). When I saw his mixes on YouTube years ago, I decided to save up for my own gear. For my 16th birthday, my Mom got me a pair of CDJ-800ís, a DJM-800, and a pair of HDJ-1000ís (which didnít last very long). This was right before the divorce happened, so music helped me continue on and provided an escape for me. It was hard times to go through. After my parents divorced, I had to start doing a lot of things on my own. I was a fairly spoiled child, and didnít do any of the normal chores you would do. In order to get what I have now, I had to do a lot of jobs at places I hated. But now, I see it was worth it.
I had it pretty easy, but I also had it pretty hard at the same time. In 1998, I was diagnosed with Aspergerís Syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism. A lot of people think of me differently when I first mention it to them, but once they get to know me after a week, itís like they donít even remember. I would have to thank my high school for that ( Franklin Academy, www.fa-ct.org ) as they are a school for high-functioning autistic teenagers and other social / learning disabilities. I currently do not have a driverís license, I am working on my pilotís license though (as flight is my third love next to music and pingpong table manufacturing).
My current DJ setup consists of an Audio 4 and an Audio 8, a copy of Traktor Scratch Duo and Traktor Scratch Pro, 2 Stanton STR8-150ís, 2 CDJ-2000ís, 2 CDJ-800ís, 1 DJM-800, 1 EFX-1000, 1 Stanton Control System (SCS) 3, my HP dv7-1200 or my MacBook Pro Unibody revision, and either my 11 year old pair of Sennheiser HD-545 Reference Model or my new Sennheiser HD280ís. Sometimes I will use my KRK Rokit 8ís instead of my headphones, or in the case of my dorm room at college, my trusty Logitech G51 System.

What are your music preferences?

Well, I just love UK Hardcore. Essential Platinum is my favorite label. I also enjoy listening to House, Electro, Electro-House, Tech-House, Trance, Vocal Trance, Hard House, Hard Trance, Hardscape, Freeform, and Gabber. No Speedcore kthx. I spin these genres, as well as listen to them.

When did you start?

I started when I was 12 when my parents got me a MIDI controller for my birthday which came with a copy of VirtualDJ (it was a really old version too!). Now I am 18, so that makes it 6 years. I have always shown a keen interest in music, so spinning it for so long I would hope my skills have gotten much better and that Iím not train-wrecking a mix at the end of each track.

Who/What inspires you?

As for Producers/DJs, Scott Brown, Squad-E, Re-con, Dougal & Gammer, miDJe, Starstruck, Lumin & Cheever (RIP, they left the hardcore scene =( ), Milo, Orbit1, Inverse, Impact, Nomad, Fracus, DJ Sc@r, DJ Uplift, Clodhopper, Auscore, S3RL, DJ Cotts, DJ Ravine, DJ Deadpool and most of all Naggy & Audien who happen to live 45 minutes away from me. They showed me that even a boring state like Connecticut can hold surprises. As for what inspires me? People loving music. I see a lot of talk about ďpeople destroying the sceneĒ and wellÖ you get the point. I am no raver, I have never played at a rave, and I just love this music with my heart and soul. I really donít care if people say that ďTechno sucksĒ, they just compel me to try harder. Growing up in an area where the kids that listened to ďTechnoĒ were all completely shunned has shown me that the majority of society needs to drop stereotypes in order to accept different ways.

Do you have any ambitions?

As a matter of fact I do! Some very important ones to me is public speaking. Although my major currently is I.T. (Networking), I would also love to go around doing some public speaking. I always love encouraging others to stick up for their thoughts and rights. However my first priority is to get a job as head of I.T. at my old high school, since they really changed my life in a highly significant way. I also would eventually love to have my show on Krafty have around a 20+ listener average, as I want to have everyone that loves this music listen to it! I spend an average of 2 weeks preparing a playlist and 5 weeks mixing it until I get it right, seeing what tracks go well together, all that jazz. My last ambition is to eventually meet up with some people and create friendships with people from Krafty. I also have an ambition to meet the right girl for me, one day.

Where have you played at?

Nowhere so far, but if anyone wants to contact me, they can email me at dj_daft@live.com (it is also my MSN), add me to Skype at wil.swartzell or contact me via Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/wswartzell I live on the Connecticut Shoreline, and attend college in Randolph Center, Vermont. If you want me to play, you better have a lot of milk, because I thrive on it!

Do you have any future plans?

Other than to finish up college, get my degree, get a job, and try to fit DJing in there all at once, nope. I hope and I will try to keep playing on Krafty radio as long as I can. Shireen happily gave me the chance to have my own timeslot 3 out of 4 Tuesdays in the month, which is more than generous for someone she has only known for 3 months at the time I write this (March 20, 2010).

Contact Info: Any last words? Hell yeah, itís not about your ego, itís not about how many promos or unreleased tracks you have, itís about the music, so get out there and ROCK IT HARD!
